World Professional JJ Cup in 1 & 2 May
Tournament pay-out over 111 thousand dollars
After an end of the year with more than attractive
prize money for gentle art competitors in the Middle
East (Asian Super Cup and Capital Challenge), 2009
is showing signs of being another prosperous year
for Jiu-Jitsu practitioners. And anyone who wishes
to can start training hard right after New Year’s,
since the 1st and 2nd of May will be the maiden World
Professional JJ Cup in Abu Dhabi.
Event organizer Carlao Santos informed GRACIEMAG.com
that total prize money for the event will be 111 thousand
dollars. To the Carioca black belt, it will be more
than just a “championship,” but a “Jiu-Jitsu
show.”
“The World Professional JJ Cup will be a show.
We are treating this event not just as a championship,
but a BJJ mega show: 111 thousand dollars in prizes,
besides six qualifiers in the lead up. This will be
the first Pro BJJ mini-circuit in history. We will
have a qualifying tournament in Brazil, for all of
South America. In North America, there will be one
in Florida and another in Canada. After that there
will be one in Japan and another in Spain, for Europe,
and in Australia. April 30 will be the opener and
May 1 and 2, the Pro Worlds,” explained Carlao.
And speaking of shows, the stars to participate cannot
be left out. Excited with the preparations underway,
Carlao promises 2009 will have even better infrastructure
that that of this year. “The competition will
be the best and most professional possible. The fighters
can expect, as they will be treated as stars, to be
received as great sportsmen. Especially since the
event will be covered by TV channels from several
parts of the world. There will be television channels
from Europe, Brazil, Japan, Australia covering the
event. The champions will become Jiu-Jitsu superstars,”
said Carlao in finishing.
So, it’s time to let your gi air out for these
